Affirmation of Daily Work - Introduction notes.

The Diocesan Ministry Development Committee has produced a service for use within the Diocese to celebrate the Affirmation of Daily Work.

Traditionally many Churches celebrate Harvest Festival, but many within the Diocese are no longer directly connected with the farming industry. Hence this liturgy of giving thanks to God, titled; Affirmation of Daily Work, embraces both farming and all form of daily work including the arts and creative leisure activities.

The Affirmation of Daily Work is designed to be an inclusive service, that can fit into a Sunday Eucharist service, Morning or Evening Prayer or a stand-alone service, which can be adapted to suite local congregational conditions. It encourages all members of the congregation to bring to the service something that represents their working, or creative leisure item/s in which to express their thanksgiving to God for the creative gifts that God has given to us.

As St. Paul wrote: ‘Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone'. (I Corinthians 12:4-6). This service strives to celebrate these words of St. Paul.
